Delima Plouffe (neé Poulin; 9 June 1881 – 22 March 1993) was a Canadian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
She was born in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on 9 June 1881, where she lived her entire life. Her parents were Emery and Josephine (neé St-Martin) Poulin. She had eight siblings in total, all of which were younger than her.
On 9 March 1905, at the age of 23, she married Cyprien Plouffe. He worked in the automobile industry, while Delima was a salesperson. The couple had six children, of which only four survived into adulthood. She became a widow on 28 February 1949, when Cyprien died at the age of 79.
At the age of 107, Plouffe participated in the 1988 Terry Fox Run, a charity event to raise money for cancer research. Using a wheelchair and some assistance, she managed over two kilometres.
Plouffe died in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on 22 March 1993 at the age of 111 years, 286 days, just two days after the then-Canadian Doyenne Lillian Ross died in the same province at the age of 113. She was the second-oldest living person in the country, behind Marie-Louise Meilleur at the time of her death. Plouffe was survived by her younger sister Georgiana Menard, who was in her late 90s at the time.
