Denise Jeanne Clemence Marie Leroy (née Puiroux; born 3 July 1913) is a French supercentenarian who served as the first female mayor of Cugand, France from 1969 to 1983. Her age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Denise Leroy was born on 3 July 1913 in Nantes, Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France. She married Yves Leroy, in October 1937 and they had one son. She studied during World War II while her husband fought as a soldier. At some point, she moved to the town Cugand in the Vendée department.

She joined the Cugand city council in 1946. In 1969, she became the first female mayor of Cugand, a position she held for 14 years, until her retirement in 1983. She later moved back to Nantes.

In June 2021, at the age of 106, she received the Legion D'Honneur (Legion of Honour). Leroy stated, “It was my duty, to the extent of my abilities, to participate in municipal management during these 38 years. I learned a lot while trying to participate in the renovation of our town."

On 3 July 2023, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Denise Leroy currently lives in Nantes, Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France, at the age of 111 years, 151 days.
