Dezider Pal [Slovak: Dezider Pál] (10 November 1898 – 22 October 2004) was a Slovakian centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Slovakia at the time of his death.
Biography[]
Dezider Pál was born in the village of Nižný Hrušov, Prešov Region, Austria-Hungary (now Slovakia), on 10 November 1898. During the World War I, he fought in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1921, he left for the USA. He lived in New York for 29 years, where he ran a successful business. He founded a bakery company, which employed mainly Slovaks, Poles and Hungarians. At the age of 60, he sold the well-established company and moved to the town of Willington. He was married twice and had two sons. In 1962, he came to visit his family in Slovakia after a long absence. He moved permanently to his native region in 1996.
On 10 November 1998, he celebrated his 100th birthday, becoming a centenarian. Since his immediate family, sons, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, continued to live in the United States, he lived in Košice with his nephew, Gabriel Kozma, and his wife Magda.
Dezider Pál died in Košice, Košice Region, Slovakia, on 22 October 2004, at the age of 105 years, 347 days. She was also the last known surviving man in Slovakia born in the 1800s. Following his death, then 101-year-old Ján Strišovský became the oldest known living man in Slovakia.
