Djordjo Ostovic [Bosnian: Đorđo Ostović, Bosnian Cyrillic: Ђорђо Остовић] (8 November 1919 – 13 February 2025) was a Bosnian centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time of his death.
Biography[]
Đorđo Ostović was born in the village of Prijeđel, Foča, Kingdom of Yugoslavia (now Bosnia and Herzegovina), on 8 November 1919. Before his birth, his parents moved to Prijeđel from the Montenegrin village of Graovo. He lost his father very early, who died at the age of 30 after falling from a tree. At the age of 11, he began doing hard labor to help his mother raise two more brothers and two sisters. In 1950, he married Mara, and had three sons and two daughters. He lived in his native village until 1954, when he moved to the village of Laminci near Gradiška, where he bought 40 acres of land and built a large family house. For a time, he worked in Jesenice (now Slovenia), and then in Gradiška, working at the city's "Metal" company, from where he retired in the 1970s. One of his sons, died tragically at the age of 14, after falling off his bicycle while going to school, while his other son died in 2001. His wife died at the age of 96.
On 8 November 2019, he celebrated his 100th birthday, becoming a centenarian. Until the age of 104, he rode a bicycle.
On 10 September 2023, following the death of 105-year-old Mustafa Džafić, he became the oldest known living man in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Đorđo Ostović died in the village of Laminci, Gradiška, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 13 February 2025, at the age of 105 years, 97 days. He was also the last known surviving man in Bosnia and Herzegovina born in the 1910s decade. Following his death, then 104-year-old Milovan Grbić became the oldest known living man in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
