Biography[]

Early Life[]

Doris Thompson was born as Doris Irene Stevens in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom on 27 October 1909 to Thomas Stevens and Emma Matilda Stevens, She was a twin to Winifred Maud Stevens (1909-1996) her siblings at the time were: Robert (1900-1981), Eliza (1903-1990), and Sidney (1903-2001). Not much is known about her childhood other than Thomas died when Dolly was very young.

World War II[]

Dolly was living with her sisters and her mother in 1939. There is a article about her time in WW2:

"Mr Combes across the road from number seven where I lived was killed but his sons were brought to my house where they were laid on the table and cleaned up while waiting for emergency services.

Also, Mr Hall from number 10 brought his children over to be looked after by my sister and me. When he went back to get his wife, the house collapsed on him killing him and his wife.

My house was also affected with all the windows and the front door blown off and the force of the explosion also split the stairs in two.

It was a frightening time; my sister and I used to hide under the stairs during these air raids."

Her mother died in 1943 and buried next to her husband, although she is not mentioned on the grave.

Post-War[]

Dolly met John Thompson, a recently demobilized private from the Royal Engineers. The couple married in 1948 and had two children. Jeanette and Robert (originally Stanley). They lived a normal life and had 8 grandchildren.

Tragedy struck when the 28th May 1998, John the beloved husband of Doris, died of Pneumonia. It was a big hit for the family as John was beloved by the family. It certainly had a large effect on the Dolly now in her 80s.

Dolly went on to work at various places until she was 90.
