Biography[]

Dorothy Green was born as Dorothy Corinne Hall on 3 June 1911 in Amoret, Missouri. She was the second child of four children born to Carl Hall and Amanda Hicks. As a young girl, she aided her father in the store that he owned.

Green later graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in education and became a schoolteacher. Working in a single-room school, she earned $65 a month teaching students whose ages widely varied. She married Robert Harold Green in 1938 and they settled in Springfield, Missouri. They raised one child together, a son named Bob.

Throughout her life, Green enjoyed traveling; In the 1930s, she traveled to New York City with her older sister Thelma, and in the 1980s, she took a trip to Egypt. Green stopped driving at the age of 99. At the age of 103 years old, she moved from Springfield to Leawood, Kansas, to live closer to surviving family members.

Green was a devout Presbyterian. In her retirement, she played bridge weekly and often drank gin and tonics. At the age of 109, Green still attended daily exercise classes at her assisted living facility. She celebrated her 110th birthday on 3 June 2021.

Green died on 26 February 2024 in Leawood, Kansas, at the age of 112 years, 268 days.

Green became the oldest known living resident of Kansas following the death of 112-year-old Margaret Hollenshead on 28 April 2023. She held this distinction for ten months, and was succeeded by then-110-year-old Esther Groneman after her death. Groneman, however, died just three days later.

In addition to being the oldest living person in Kansas, Green was also the sixth-oldest living resident of the United States at the time of her death, after Elizabeth Francis, Naomi Whitehead, Herlda Senhouse, Lillian Moran, and Mary Harris.

Green was not known to researchers until after she died, when an obituary was published. She holds the record for being the second-oldest person ever to have died in Kansas, after Ella Schuler.

Green's age was verified by Oliver Trim (GRG) and Stefan Maglov (LQ), and was validated by each organization on 17 March and 25 March 2024 respectively.
