Edith Leora Lale (10 March 1905 – 20 May 2015) was an American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024.

Biography[]

Edith Lale was born on a farm near Odessa, Missouri, USA on 10 March 1905. Her parents were Thomas Newman Lale and Nellie Bly (née Doty) Lale. She had one sister Mildred Florence Lale.

From 1913-1919, Edith attended Rural Weaver School and high school in Odessa. She went on to Missouri Valley College, transferring her junior year to Kansas State Agricultural College, where she earned her B.S. in Home Economics.

Her sewing machine was never closed, neither was her typewriter, which she used to write many stories of family farm life and genealogy. She became a research associate in the published genealogy "The Lagle/Lale Family in America", contributing the chapter "Kentucky to Missouri, 1858". She also volunteered at Word and Work Book Store and was a member of the Church of Christ in Odessa and Louisville.

Lale died in Louisville, Kentucky, USA on 20 May 2015 at the age of 110 years, 71 days. She was survived by her cousins, Ann Friend Newton, John and Charles Schooley, and Sandra Faust.
