Edward Dore Mitchell Anderson (26 May 1902 – 22 March 2011) was a British centenarian who was the oldest known living man in the United Kingdom when he died. However, he was not the oldest known living British-born man as Claude Choules of Australia was older. He was anonymous up until his death, when his name was revealed.
Biography[]
Edward Dore Mitchell Anderson was born on 26 May 1902 in the UK. In 1927, he married Alexandrina Christina Victoria "Vick" Beavan (died 1995) in Woolwich, London, and had one son with her: Alexander (born 1933). He became a widower upon the death of his wife in 1995 aged 89.
In May 2002, he celebrated his 100th birthday and became a centenarian. Eight years later, on 21 June 2010, he became the oldest known living man in the United Kingdom, following the death of 110-year-old Stanley Lucas, even though he was anonymous at this time.
Edward Anderson died on 22 March 2011 in Davenham, Great Malvern, Worcestershire, UK, at the age of 108 years, 300 days. His successor as the United Kingdom’s oldest known living man was then 108-year-old Thomas Reginald "Reg" Dean (1902–2013). He was cremated on 4 April 2011. His son was still alive at the time.
