Ekaterini "Katherine" Zacharopoulos (19 February 1897 - 9 February 2007) was a Greek centenarian, who was the oldest living person in Greece at time of her death.
Biography[]
Ekaterini Zacharopoulos was born in Potamia, Central Greece on 19 February 1897. She married Giorgios Zacharopoulos and had 3 children, including James (1926-2006) who lived in USA. In some point of her life Ekaterina moved to Athens, Attica.
She became the oldest living person in Balkans since death of Luca Bulic from Bosnia and Herzegovina on 3 July 2005.
Ekaterini Zacharopoulos died on 9 February 2007 aged 109 years, 355 days, just 10 days shy of her 110th birthday. At this time she was the oldest person who ever lived in Greece (until 10 June 2008, when her age was surpassed by Anastasia Athanassoulas), and the fourth-oldest-Greek-born person behind Gregory Pandazes, Ioanna Lambropoulos and Helen Gewlas. After her death the oldest person in Greece became then 108-year-old Anastasia Athanassoulas.
