Elias Athanasiades [Greek: Ηλίας Αθανασιάδης] (14 May 1891? – fl.25 November 2004) was a Turkish-Greek supercentenarian claimant whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). If his claimed age were true, he would have been older than Emiliano Mercado del Toro, who was the oldest living validated man in the world at the time of his most recent confirmation of being alive.
Biography[]
Elias Athanasiades claimed that he was born in Ottoman Empire (now Turkey) on 14 May 1891. Later, he emigrated to Greece.
Athanasiades came to the notice of the WOP on November 22, 2004 when a Greek couple came to the attention of the Guinness Book of Records concerning a claim on the world’s longest surviving married couple. The original story appeared in the ANA-MPA newspaper, but the article has long since gone.
Elias Athanasiades was last confirmed alive in Greece on 25 November 2004, at the claimed age of 113 years, 191 days.
