Elisabeth Franke (10 November 1903 – 11 August 2014) was a German supercentenarian who was, at the time of her passing at age 110 years, 274 days the oldest living inhabitant of North Rhine-Westphalia. Her age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography
Elisabeth Franke was born in Silesia, Prussia on 10 November 1903.
She moved into a nursing home in 1979. At age 100, she moved into a new building of the nursing home. She never married or had children but had a brother she maintained contact with by telephone for many decades. Although being open-minded and clear-headed no one knew about the always single lady’s life.
At age 108 Franke went by wheel chair. Being asked about the people’s interest in her longevity she mentioned humbly, her mother always said there won’t be money for celebrating a birthday. Franke was reported to stay young by being wicked, curious and naughty. She became North Rhine-Westphalia’s oldest citizen with the passing of 110-year old Marie Schröder on 4 November 2013. Six days later, she reached 110, too.
On 11 August 2014 Franke passed away at age 110 years, 274 days. She may have been preceded in death by 110-year old anonymous woman (1904–2014) of Essen.
