Eliza Taylor (née Beaumont; 16 December 1849 – 27 May 1960) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Eliza Taylor was born in Highland Township, Oakland County, Michigan, USA, on 16 December 1849. Her parents were English immigrants Francis and Maria Beaumont. She had eight other siblings. She married Civil War veteran James Taylor on 10 March 1868. The couple had four children in total. James died in 1937 at the age of 90.
On the occasion of her 110th birthday in 1959, she was still able to recite poems that she had heard as a child. She credited her longevity to hard work and following ”the golden rule”.
Eliza Taylor died in Highland Township, Oakland County, Michigan, USA on 27 May 1960, at the age of 110 years, 163 days. At the time of death, she was the world's oldest living woman, and the second-oldest living person in the world, behind Robert Early.
