Elizabeth Neu (née Reinart; 21 August 1871 – 18 October 1982) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography

Elizabeth Reinart was born in Houston County, Minnesota, USA on 21 August 1871. Her parents were Mathias, a German immigrant and Susanna Reinart.

Neu had 11 siblings in total, of whom three died as infants. German was the first language that she learned and she went to a German-speaking school. As a child, she would help around the house.

She married Joseph Neu in Roselle Township, Carroll County, Iowa on 6 February 1893. The couple had seven children in total. She widowed in 1937.

She had a long history of longevity in her family: her mother Susanna Reinart lived to be 91, her maternal aunt Elizabeth Goetzinger lived to be 90, her brother Joe Reinart lived to be 99, her brother John Reinart lived to be 93, her sister Mary Schneider lived to be 101, her daughter Margaret Kupper lived to be 99, her Michael Neu lived to be 91. In addition, her maternal cousin Cecelia Stueve lived to be 103.

Neu died on 18 October 1982, at the age of 111 years, 58 days.
