Elizabeth Jane Sellwood (21 June 1840 – 19 March 1948) was a British centenarian who was the oldest known living person in the United Kingdom at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Elizabeth Jane Sellwood was born in Upavon, Wiltshire, England, UK, on 21 June 1840. In her old age, she was bedridden and deafblind, and lived with her son, daughter-in-law and 77-year-old daughter, who never married and cared for her. She was also unaware that either the Second World War or rationing had taken place.
Sellwood became the oldest person in the United Kingdom on 14 January 1947 (after the death of Sarah Fitt), and died on 19 March 1948 in Charlton St Peter, Wiltshire, UK, aged 107 years, 272 days. Her successor as the oldest person in the United Kingdom was Matilda Coppins.
