Elizabeth Whitehead (née Aldwinkle; 30 August 1844 – 5 March 1953) was a British centenarian who was the oldest known living person in the United Kingdom at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Elizabeth Aldwinkle was born in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, England, UK, on 30 August 1844, the eldest child of Samuel and Ann Aldwinkle. She married John Whitehead around 1867. Elizabeth and John worked as jewelers before retiring around 1900. John died in 1915.
Whitehead became the oldest living British person when Matilda Coppins died on 22 December 1951.
Elizabeth Whitehead died in Bournemouth, Dorset, England, UK, on 5 March 1953, aged 108 years, 187 days. She left £4,374 in her will, equivalent to over £121,000 in 2019. Emma Rooke then became the oldest British person.
