Biography
Ella Neumann was born as a daughter of a customs officer in Schwarzwald region. Shortly before World War I she saw the emperor Wilhelm II during his visit in Aachen, riding a horse through the city. In the 1930s, she came to Mülheim with her husband Paul, where they lived many difficult but happy years. They had no children. During the World War II, Ella Neumann was obliged to work in the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Hütte, because most of the workers were soldiers at the front.
She lived in Winkhausen before moving to a care home as a consequence of a fractured femoral neck. Reportedly, Mrs. Neumann has loved bananas and chocolate since childhood. She celebrated her 110th birthday on 9 October 2016.
Neumann died on 7 August 2018 at the age of 111 years, 302 days.
