Ellen Jane Rogers (née Green; 5 September 1918 – 9 May 2021) was a centenarian from Tristan da Cunha. She is currently the oldest person ever from Tristan da Cunha.

Biography[]

Ellen Rogers was born as Ellen Jane Green on 5 September 1918 in Tristan da Cunha. Her parents were Alfred & Lily Green. She was one of 5 children. She married Cyril Rogers on 8 June 1939. They had 9 children. She had to work hard all of her life. She always made sure her family was provided for. She loved the outdoor life. She childminded many times for some of the ladies who worked in the factory.

Ellen Rogers became Tristan da Cunha"s first centenarian ever on 5 September 2018. Her party was held on the 16th September, after the arrival of the SA Agulhas II, which brought those of her children resident overseas to Tristan for the occasion. Administrator Sean Burns, who also returned on the Agulhas, had the honour of bringing her a special Royal Mail delivery - a card from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

Ellen Rogers died in Tristan da Cunha on 9 May 2021, at the age of 102 years, 244 days. At the time of her death, she had 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
