Eloise Marguerite Chandler (née Johnston; 21 January 1910 – 12 May 2021) was a Guyanese-born Canadian supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the oldest known living person born in Guyana at time of her death.
Biography[]
Eloise Chandler was born in Georgetown, Guyana (then British Guiana), on 21 January 1910. She was the youngest of 13 siblings born to parents Maurice Arncliffe Johnson (1867–1937) and Josephine Clarissa Pitcher (1870–1949). Chandler came to Canada in 1920. She worked for many years at a bank.
In 1946, she married Evertte Harris Craven in New York. In 1970, she remarried to Charles Kenneth "Chad" Chandler in Toronto, Canada.
She became the oldest living Guyanese-born person on 15 March 2021, following the death of 112-year-old Ina Holder.
Chandler celebrated her 110th birthday at Harmony Hall, East York, Toronto, Ontario in 2020.
Chandler died in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 12 May 2021 at the age of 111 years, 111 days.
