Elpida Moschopoulos [Greek: Ελπίδα Μοσχοπούλου] (23 May 1900 – 19 March 2010) was a Greek centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Greece at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Elpida Moschopoulos was born in the village of Domat on the island of Cephalonia in Greece on 23 May 1900.
She was the grandmother of Spirios Moschopoulos, president of the voluntary group for the protection of the forests of Kefalonia. The then president of Greece, Karolos Papoulias, both before he was elected president and after, whenever he visited Kefalonia, where he spent his holidays every September, he always went to visit Elpida and talk to her.
She became the oldest known living person in Greece, following the death of 111-year-old Anastasia Athanassoulas on 15 August 2009.
Moschopoulos died on the island of Cephalonia, Greece on 19 March 2010, at the age of 109 years, 300 days. Following the her death, then 109-year-old Konstantinos Papadamis became the oldest known living person in Greece.
