Elsie Marie Thompson (née Calvert; 5 April 1899 – 21 March 2013) was a validated American supercentenarian.
Biography[]
Elsie Marie Calvert was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, USA. She married her late husband, Ronald Thompson, a World War I and II veteran, in 1921. The couple had one son, George.
According to her son, Thompson remained surprisingly active until the last few months of her life. She stayed in her home with assistance from a caregiver, got dressed every day, and still had her hair and nails done. She knew where everything was in her condo, even though she lost her sight years prior.
At the time of her death, she had four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Thompson died in Clearwater, Florida, USA, on 21 March 2013. She was believed to be the oldest American from the death of Mamie Rearden on 2 January 2013 until her own death. However, Gertrude Weaver was later validated to have been born earlier. She was the last validated Florida citizen born in the 1800s and the fifth validated oldest person in the world. She died as the joint-95th oldest validated person in history (along with Miriam Carpelan), aged 113 years, 350 days.
