Emma Henry Bacon (26 March 1911 – 17 September 2020) was an American centenarian who was one of the oldest known survivors of COVID-19, having successfully recovered from the disease either around or sometime after her 109th birthday.
Biography[]
Emma Bacon was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, USA on 26 March 1911. Her parents were Ulysses Bacon and Bertha (née Tandy) Bacon. She had four siblings, one of whom, Bertha Henderson (born 25 October 1913), celebrated her 100th birthday in 2013.
Bacon worked as a teacher in the Christian County, Kentucky school system for 40 years. She was an active member of Virginia Street Baptist Church for 87 years in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. She never married and did not have children.
In 2020, at the age of either 108 or 109, Bacon contracted COVID-19 during the coronavirus pandemic. However, she successfully recovered, making her one of the oldest known survivors of the disease. A few months later, on 17 September 2020, Bacon died at the age of 109 years, 175 days in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
