Emma Galode (22 August 1882 – 9 September 1994) was a Canadian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the third-oldest living person in Canada, after Marie-Louise Meilleur and Mary Ann Rhodes.

Biography[]

Emma Galode was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada on 22 August 1882. She spent most of her life in Hamilton. She married Jack Galode and they operated a variety store until 1948. She was widowed in 1952.

Galode lived in Hamilton for 84 years, until she moved to Hilldale Manor, Oshawa. Her child, Frances Plunkett, died in 1990. At the age of 107, she was taking a bus downtown on her own to grocery shopping. At the age of 111, she still made most of her own meals.

Emma Galode died at pneumonia in Whitby General Hospital in Ontario, Canada on 9 September 1994 at the age of 112 years, 18 days. At the time of her death she had five great-grandchildren.

Galode's age was verified by Robert Young, Filipe Prista Lucas, Anson Davis, and Waclaw Jan Kroczek, and (posthumously) validated by the GRG on 21 June 2016.
