Emma Primas (née Goosby; 5 August 1905? – 30 January 2018) was an American supercentenarian who is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Primas claimed to have been born on 5 August 1905 in Maynard, San Jacinto County, Texas. She was the second of six children born to M. T. and Pennie Goosby-Ferguson. As a young woman, she worked in the fields. In 1924 she moved to Houston, Texas, where she married Jay Gould Primas. The couple had one daughter. She also joined the New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Primas later moved to San Francisco, California, where she worked as a streetcar operator - reportedly the first African-American woman in the city to do so. She also became Lead Dietician for five local schools. After saving some money, Primas returned to Houston where she maintained her own grocery store.

Primas was a lifelong supporter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and as of 2015, still served in the National Council of Negro Women. In April 2015, she met then-president Barack Obama.

Primas died in Houston, Texas on 30 January 2018, at the claimed age of 112 years, 178 days. At the time of her death, she had four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren and five great-great-great grandchildren.
