Emma Strause (née Knoll; formerly Stoudt; 25 December 1902 – 28 March 2013) was an American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2022.

Biography[]

Emma Strause was born in New Shaefferstown, Pennsylvania, USA on Christmas Day (25 December) 1902. Her parents were J. Michael Knoll (1861–1961) and Lovina (née Holtzman) Knoll (1864–1950). She had two sisters: Nellie Troutman (1887–1953), and Marie Gordon (1905–2008).

She attended a one-room school until 8th grade, then graduated from Penn Bernville High School.

She was a graduate of Kutztown Normal School (now Kutztown University), with a Normal Degree. She then attended the University of Maryland, obtaining a bachelors and masters degree in education.

She was an educator, starting as a teacher in a one-room school. She taught and later became principal in an elementary school in Prince George's County, Maryland.

She married Harry L. Stoudt, an accountant. Harry died in 1969.

She married Dr. Harold Strause, an ophthalmologist. Harold died in 1981.

She was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in New Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania.

Emma Strause died in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, USA on 28 March 2013 at the age of 110 years, 96 days. She was survived by one nephew, one grandnephew, and one grandniece Jane Wilhelm.
