Ena Elizabeth Nelson (née Gibson; 23 September 1906 – 18 January 2018) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Ena Nelson was born in Folkston, Georgia on 23 September 1906, to Henry and Elizabeth Gibson. She had at least two siblings and ten half-siblings.
In the 1920s, Nelson attended what is now Valdosta State University for two summers, earning her teaching degree, and went on to teach in three schools. She married Stafford Nelson in 1933, and never had any children. They were married until his death in 1988.
After Stafford's death, Nelson moved to Waycross, Georgia to live with her sister, Anna Turner. They lived together for 22 years before Turner died in October 2010, aged 97. Nelson died on 18 January 2018, in a retirement community in Waycross, after an extended illness. She was aged 111 years, 117 days.
