Erich Steffen (24 July 1911 – 2020) was a Polish-German centenarian who was the second-oldest living man in Germany (after Heinrich Homann) at time of his death.
Biography[]
Erich Steffen was born in Walcz, Prussia, German Empire (now West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland) on 24 July 1911. After graduating from high school, he studied and became a flight engineer in Stettin, Pomerania (now Szczecin, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland). He became a test pilot and tested almost all types of aircraft that existed at the time.
He moved to Hamburg with his wife Gerda and three children in 1957 when he started at the Lufthansa Air Shipyard. On a trip to Bergedorf, they moved to apartment in 1964.
In August 2017, he had three granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
Erich Steffen died in Bergedorf, Hamburg, Germany in 2020 at the age of 108 years.
