Longevity claimant

Erminia Lopes dos Santos (12 June 1907? – 30 July 2022) was a Brazilian longevity claimant whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography

Erminia Lopes dos Santos claimed to have been born in Itambacuri, Minas Gerais, Brazil on 12 June 1907.

According to her daughter Maria Gouveia (aged 76 in 2019), her mother came from good genetics because her ancestors were also long-lived.

In early February 2021, at the claimed age of 113, she received her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Potential Longevity Records and Death

Following the death of 115-year-old Casilda Benegas on 28 June 2022, Lopes dos Santos became a claimant for the title of the oldest living person in Latin America.

Lopes dos Santos died in Varzea Paulista, Sao Paulo, Brazil, on 30 July 2022, at the claimed age of 115 years, 48 days. Coincidentally, her death occurred on the same day as the death of Sofia Rojas, who was the oldest validated living person in Latin America at the time.

If her claimed age were validated, she would have been the oldest living person in Brazil, being older than Inah Canabarro Lucas, as well as the fifth-oldest living person in the world at the time of her death, after Lucile Randon, Tekla Juniewicz, Maria Branyas Morera, and Fusa Tatsumi.
