Ernesta Garcia Hernandez [Spanish: García Hernández] (7 November 1910 – 19 July 2021) was a Puerto Rican-American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS) and recognized by LongeviQuest (LQ), and was validated by Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024.
Biography[]
Ernesta Garcia was born in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico on 7 November 1910. Her parents were Juan García and Eleuteria Hernandez. She had at least 3 sisters: Maria Garcia (1912–2003), Primitiva Garcia and Carmela Garcia.
She married Lazarro Agosto in Puerto Rico and had 5 children, including Maria Virgen Acevedo (1944–2015), Juan Antonio Agosto (1945–2010), Elena Arroyo and Rosie Agosto.
Garcia moved to New York in 1964 for the birth of her first grandchild. She had lived in Bridgeport, Connecticut, since 1967 and in her last home for the past 30 years.
As of November 2017, she had three living children, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Her age was verified by Stefan Maglov, and validated by the LAS on 8 November 2020. The validation was later accepted by LongeviQuest.
Garcia died in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA, at the age of 110 years, 254 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known woman born in Puerto Rico.
