Ethel Mary Booth (née Davis; 25 December 1890 – 18 February 2001) New Zealand supercentenarian whose age is currently validated by Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Ethel Booth was born in Ethel Mary Davis in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand, on 25 December 1890. Her father Jackie was the youngest member of the 4th Waikato militia which founded Kirikiriroa, now known as Hamilton. Ethel married Edward Booth and had 3 children: Gordon, Roy and Bob. Edward was sadly killed in World War 1, leaving Ethel to raise their children alone.
All of Ethel's sons were alive at the time of Ethel's 110th birthday in 2000. She was the second person from New Zealand ever to turn 110, after Arthur Bates. Ethel said that her longevity might be due to the fact that she had no "man stress".
Ethel Booth died in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand on 18 February 2001 at the age of 110 years, 55 days. She was the oldest person to be born in New Zealand until Maudie Wilson surpassed her age in 2013.
