Ethel Maud Miller (née Romans; 8 October 1890 – 23 January 2001) was a British-born Canadian supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Ethel Miller was born in Windsor, Berkshire, England, UK on 8 October 1890. Her parents were Sidney Thomas Romans and Kate (née Woodley) Romans. She had two siblings.
In 1917, she met a soldier named Vivian Frederick "Fred" Miller, who was born in England and emigrated to Canada, where he was a cowboy before enlisting in the army.
After the First World War ended in 1918, Fred returned to Canada for demobilization. In the spring of 1920, he had saved enough money to send for his wife.
The couple had two daughters: Gwendoline "Gwen" (born 1921) and Phyllis (born c.1927). Her daughter Gwen was killed in a car crash when she was 48.
She moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1920. The family moved to Vancouver when Fred retired in 1950. She got widowed in 1970.
Ethel Miller died in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 23 January 2001 at the age of 110 years, 107 days.
