Ethel May Pease (9 May 1888 – 19 January 1999) was a British-Canadian supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Ethel Pease was born on a farm in Wensleydale, Yorkshire, England, UK on 9 May 1888. She was the seventh of 12 children. After finishing school at age 14, she learned to be a seamstress and was very adept at crochet.
When the First World War broke out, she trained to be a nurse and served in a Manchester military hospital. One of her brothers died during the war.
After the war ended, she returned home, worked as school teacher and married Albert Victor Pease in 1920. The family moved around England a little, finally setting near Leeds.
When her husband died, she moved to Canada to live with her daughter Margaret, staying with she until 1991, when she moved into Carleton Lodge.
Ethel Pease died in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on 19 January 1999 at the age of 110 years, 255 days.
