Eudoxie Firminie Baboul (1 October 1901 – 1 July 2016) was a supercentenarian from French Guiana who was the oldest living person in France and the fifth-oldest validated living person in the world (behind Emma Morano, Violet Brown, Nabi Tajima, and Chiyo Miyako) at the time of her death. Also, she was the third-oldest French person ever, behind Jeanne Calment and Marie Bremont, although numerous other people have since surpassed her.
Biography
Baboul was born in Sinnamary, French Guiana on 1 October 1901. Though she claimed she was born a day earlier, on 30 September 1901, and this was widely reported in the media, both her birth record and ID card showed 1 October (cite to GRG News). In her youth, she cultivated vegetables and sold them. She never married, but had several children, all of whom she outlived. She had three grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
On 25 September 2010, Baboul became the oldest known person in French Guiana, following the death of 109-year-old Victoire Adelon, also of Cayenne. In 2011, she moved to Matoury, where she lived with her 54-year-old grandson Joubert. From 2013, she was bedridden.
Following the death of Olympe Amaury on 12 May 2015, she became the oldest living person in France. She died in Cayenne, French Guiana on 1 July 2016 at the age of 114 years, 274 days.
