Eugene John "Gene" Baltes (29 October 1914 – 29 December 2024) was an American supercentenarian and World War II veteran who was the oldest known living man in the United States from the death of 110-year-old Vincent Dransfield on 26 June 2024, until his own death. His age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Eugene Baltes was born on 29 October 1914 in Minnesota, USA. He joined the military in 1941. He worked 18 years for the U.S. Postal Service. He spent his retirement years traveling, playing golf, and supporting his church. His advice for a long and healthy life is to never smoke or drink.
His sister Helen Kaufenberg (1911-2006) died at age 95, sister Bernadette Metz (1917-2010) at age 93, brother Vincent Herman Baltes (1919-2016) at age 96, brother Francis Baltes (1925-2019) at age 94, and sister Muriel Anderson (1923-2020) at age 96.
In October 2024, he celebrated his 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.
Eugene Baltes died in River Grove, Illinois, USA on 28/29 December 2024 at the age of 110 years, 61 days.

Baltes became the oldest known living man in the US State of Illinois on 5 January 2023, following the death of Izar B. Tilson. He entered the top 10 oldest living men in the United States, following the death of the death of 110 on 13 June 2023.
He became the third-oldest known living man in the USA, following the death of 109-year-old Fortino Rocha on 14 January 2024.
He became the second-oldest known living man in the USA, following the death of 110-year-old Morrie Markoff on 3 June 2024.
He became the oldest known living man in the USA, following the death of 110-year-old Vincent Dransfield on 26 June 2024, however, Salvadoran-born Atilio Zepeda Navarrete may have been older, but his age has not been validated yet. He was the youngest man to hold the title since Oscar Dubois became the oldest living man in the USA following the death of Alton Gilbert on 23 January 1989.
