Eugenie Peyrieux [French: Eugénie] (1 December 1903 – 4 May 2015) was a French supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Eugenie Peyrieux was born in La Chapelle de la Tour, Isere, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France on 1 December 1903. She spent her youth there and worked as a weaver in a factory in La Tour-du-Pin. During the years 1914-1918 she saw her brothers go to war, her sisters lost their fiancés on the front of the World War I. In 1926 she married Paul Peyrieux. From this union two daughters were born: Suzanne and Odette. Suzanne was a child of fragile health, so on the advice of a doctor, the family left the city to live in Saint-Didier-au-Mt-d’Or, just before the outbreak of the Second World War. Her husband, who worked as an employee at EDF, retired in 1955. In 1963 they came to settle in Charly. Paul Peyrieux died in 1992 at the age of 91. Suzanne died in 2001. Eugenie left her home in Charly in June 2009, at the age of 105, to enter a retirement home in Saint-Francois-de-Sales in Vernaison.
On her 110th birthday in December 2013, she had one living daughter (Odette). She has 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter was born at the end of October 2013. Highly appreciated by the staff, Eugenie was pleasant by nature, she loved music, singing, the accordion, and participated in the activities with great diligence and great pleasure.
Eugenie Peyrieux’s age was verified by Cyril Depoudent, and validated by the GRG on 2 January 2015.
Eugenie Peyrieux died in Vernaison, Lyon Metropolis, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France on 4 May 2015, at the age of 111 years, 154 days.
