Faustino Perfecto (Tino) Vargas Perez [Spanish: Pérez] (27 September 1896 – 20 August 2008) was a Costa Rican supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Faustino Vargas Perez was born in Naranjo, Alajuela, Costa Rica on 27 September 1896. His parents were Jose Faustino de la Concepcion Vargas (1851–1920) and Manuela Margarita Vargas (née Perez Murillo; 1857–1945). He had six siblings: Rafael Alberto, Jose Alberto Faustino, Ana Maria Elena, Adela Rosa, Francisco Rafael Alfredo, and Maria Adela.
In 1926, he married Amanda Corrales. Amanda was 15 years old at that time. They had 11 children, seven of whom were still alive as of December 2004. In 1960, he moved to Tibas, San Jose. Their marriage lasted for 77 years until Amanda's death on 3 May 2003. When asked about the secret of his long life, he said: I don't know... I guess because God willed it so. I don't know how many years I will live, I can die tomorrow or maybe not, that only God knows. In 2004, he lived with his three children, Mariela, Adolfo and Claudia. In 2006, it was revealed that Vargas Perez woke up every morning around 5:30 AM, made his breakfast and read newspapers. In 2007, he had 18 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
Vargas Perez died on 20 August 2008 at the age of 111 years, 328 days. He is the oldest validated man ever from Costa Rica.
