Centenarian |
Idalie Felicie Carrier [French: Félicie] (née Bert; 25 March 1855 – 8 March 1963) was a French centenarian who was the oldest known living person in France at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Early Life and Family[]
Felicie Carrier was born in Gruissan, Aude, Occitanie, France on 25 March 1855. Her parents were Felix Bert (1818–1900) and Jeanne Benas (1820–?). She only took the train one time, to go to Beziers.
On 22 November 1879, she married Paul Carrier (1854–1930), with whom she had 5 children: Paul (1872–1872), Marie Pauline (1872–?), Clemence (1885–?), Jean Etienne (1887–1894) and Berthe Marie "Louise" (1896–1983).
Later Life[]
In March 1960, aged almost 105, Carrier didn't fear to pick up bundles of sticks for fire, and was still doing walks.
In March 1962, aged almost 107, Carrier was still in great shape: she was able to knit with dexterity and without glasses, had a good appetite, and was still going to church once a week. At that time, she was living with her daughter Marie-Louise and her son-in-law (a baker). It was reported the secret of her longevity might be that she allowed herself to take only two medicines: sugary wine and aspirin. She only spoke patois.
Following the death of 108-year-old Desiree Delory on 7 July 1962, Carrier became the oldest known living person in France.
Felicie Carrier died in Gruissan, Aude, Occitanie, France on 8 March 1863 at the age of 107 years, 348 days. Following her death, then-107-year-old Ferdinise Nebolle of Martinique became the oldest known living person in France.
