Ferenc Bakó (9 November 1917 – 18 February 2025) was a Hungarian centenarian who was the oldest living man in Hungary at the time of his death. He was also the world’s second-oldest active social media user, behind Yu Te-Hsin.
Biography[]
Ferenc Bakó was born in Kecskemét, Bács-Kiskun County, Austria-Hungary (now Hungary) on 9 November 1917. At the age of 19, he moved to Sopron, where he served as a military musician from 1936 to 1940. During World War II, he served as a financier, first in Szombathely and later in Pápa with a parachute battalion. He was then sent to the front, where he was seriously wounded, and after recovering, he returned to Sopron and continued to play music. At some point, he got married and had five children.
On 9 November 2017, he celebrated his 100th birthday, becoming a centenarian.
On 21 March 2023, following the death of 105-year-old Ferenc Pál-Szabó, he became the oldest known living man in Hungary.
Ferenc Bakó died at his home in Fertőszentmiklós, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hungary on 18 February 2025, at the age of 107 years, 101 days.
