Ruy de Noronha Goyos (12 March 1914 – 3 October 2022) was a Brazilian centenarian who was the oldest known living World War II veteran in Brazil at the time of his death.

Biography[]

Ruy de Noronha Goyos was born in Ouro Fino, Minas Gerais, Brazil on 12 March 1914. His parents were Elisaldo Ferreira Goyos and Maria Ferreira Goyos.

During World War II, he was a member of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force in the war theater of Italy, and served in the 9th Engineering Battalion.

He married Maria Celia Lopes de Almeida in Presidente Alves, Sao Paulo, Brazil on 18 December 1948. The couple had five children: including Maria Aparecida (born 1949), Ruy (born 1951), Gil (born 1955), and Maria Lucia (born 1957). He worked at the Sao Paulo State Department of Agriculture until he retired.

He drove a car until the age of 98. His wife Maria Celia was still alive as of August 2013.

As of April 2020, he had seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In May 2021, he was reported as the oldest known living World War II veteran in Brazil.

Ruy de Noronha Goyos died in Galia, Sao Paulo State, Brazil on 3 October 2022, at the age of 108 years, 205 days.
