Frederick Lorenz Frazier (27 January 1880 – 14 June 1993) was a validated American supercentenarian who was the oldest living man in the world and the oldest verified man ever at the time of his death.

Biography

Frederick Frazier was born in Mobile, Alabama, USA, on 27 January 1880. His father, Frank (1842–1914) was born in present-day Germany, while his mother Bertha (1853–1933) was born in Alabama to German parents. As his birth came only a year before the state of Alabama began recording births, his earliest appearance on record is in the 1880 Federal Census, where his age is given as 4 months.

He moved to New York around 1900 and worked as a marine examiner, where he was employed as the Supervising Engineer onboard the SS Siboney. He remained in New York until the 1930s, before he and his wife moved to New Orleans, Louisiana.

As both of his parents died in their 70s, longevity was not particularly common in his family. However, his sister Mildred (1892–1994) died 1 year after him at the age of 101.

He was retroactively recognized as the World's Oldest Man, where his age was subsequently validated. He ascended to this title with the death of James Wiggins on 16 October 1991. Frazier was the first man on record to reach the age of 113 and was the oldest validated man ever, since surpassing John Evans in November 1992, until his own record was surpassed by Christian Mortensen in January 1996.

Frederick Frazier died in Mobile, Alabama on 14 June 1993 at the age of 113 years, 138 days. He is the oldest validated man ever from the US state of Alabama. He was succeeded as the world's oldest man by Josep Armengol-Jover of Spain, and as oldest living man in Alabama by Rufus Clansy.
