Centenarian

Fritz Bo(e)sch [German: Bösch] (25 February 1877 – 25 November 1986) was a Swiss centenarian who was the male longevity recordholder for Switzerland from 1984 until 2011.

Biography[]

Fritz Bosch was born on 25 February 1877 in Switzerland. It is not clear when he became the oldest man in Switzerland, but he became the oldest person in Switzerland on 21 August 1984 following the death of 109-year-old Ada Duvoisin of Geneva. A few months prior, on 13 March 1984, Bosch became the male longevity recordholder for Switzerland, surpassing the age of Zurich’s Johann Kuehlein (1868-1975).

On 6 November 1986, Bosch was taken to a hospital after suffering from blocked kidneys. He died on 25 November 1986 in Fribourg, Switzerland at the age of 109 years, 273 days. His successor as Switzerland’s oldest person was then-107-year-old Bertha Bournoud-Bucher (1879–1988) of Vaud. His Swiss male longevity record would be broken on 4 December 2011, 25 years after his death, by fellow Fribourg man Pierre Gremion (1902–2012).
