Fui Onigahara [Japanese: 鬼ヶ原フイ] (13 December 1894 – 30 June 2005) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Fui Onigahara was born in Hanaoka-cho, Kanoya, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan on 13 December 1894. She married in 1918, and had five sons and three daughters.
In May 2001, Onigahara moved to the nursing home Kanoya Chojuen [Japanese: 鹿屋長寿園] in Shimoharaigawa-cho, Kanoya. Following the death of 110-year-old Mutsu Numoto on 10 December 2003, she became the oldest living person in Kagoshima Prefecture.
On 9 February 2004, Onigahara celebrated her 109th birthday. She was visited by the mayor of Kanoya, Sakae Yamashita [Japanese: 山下榮], who offered her presents.
Fui Onigahara died in Kanoya, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan on 30 June 2005, at the the age of 110 years, 199 days. At the time of her death, she was the twelfth-oldest living person in Japan. Her age was verified by Japan's MHLW, Stefan Gelow, and Tom Li, and validated by the GRG on 26 January 2009.
