Fusa Furuya [Japanese: 古谷ふさ] (July 1897 – fl.1986/August 2010?) was a Japanese woman who was thought to have been the "Oldest Woman in Tokyo" at the age of '113' in 2010. An investigation was found that she had actually been missing since 1986.
Biography[]
Fusa Furuya was born in Japan in July 1897.
In 2010, Furuya was registered as 'living' with her 79-year-old daughter, and was thought to have been the oldest known living woman in Tokyo. However, according to the daughter, she had not been in contact with her mother since 1986, when she moved into a new home.
Authorities then visited Furuya's home; this was when they discovered that she had been missing for several decades. After that, authorities then went looking for Furuya's son, whom they thought she was living with.
As of 2010, Furuya's daughter, despite the fact that her mother was missing since 1986, still kept paying for her health insurance, just in case if she was still alive.
