Biography[]

Gaudenzio Nobili was born in Fontaneto d'Agogna, Piedmont, Italy on 25 January 1912, the youngest of seven siblings, reason why he was nicknamed "Nini". During his life he worked as a carpenter, and until late in life he loved to do several artistic works with wood.

He married a woman called Carla (who died in 2000). The couple had one daughter: Giampaola, which gave him some grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In his old age he was very active and lucid. Since his retirement he has traveled abroad a lot with his wife and he also had a great passion for manual work. As a retired carpenter he made various objects for many churches in the area.

He still lived alone until he was 100 years old, then he moved in with his daughter Giampaola and his son-in-law Luigi.

He drove his car until he was 101 years old. At the age of 104, he still managed to take long walks with the help of a cane. Practically every day he walked at least 6 km, along the village.

In the summer of 2018 he contracted an infection, which caused his health to decline, even giving up his daily walk.

He became the oldest known living person in Piedmont, following the death of 109-year-old Vincenzina Proteo on 27 February 2021. Gaudenzio Nobili became the oldest known living man in Italy, following the death of 109-year-old Antonino Turturici (who was just seven days older) on 23 September 2021.
