Genevieve Marszalek (née Pangano; 27 February 1914 – 23 March 2025) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Rhode Island.

Biography[]

Genevieve Marszalek was born to parents Pasquale and Frances Pangano in Bristol, Rhode Island, USA, on 27 February 1914. She was the second of five girls. Her sister Sylvia Hall (1917-2020) lived to 102 and her sister Patricia Fojo was still alive aged 91 as of 2024.

She married Joseph Marszalek, who worked with the FBI, on 15 February 1943. Her only son, Bobby, was born in 1945;j he was killed in duty in Germany in 1968. Marszalek worked as a typewriting instructor and bookkeeper.

Each year since turning 100, Marszalek celebrated her birthday at the Bristol House of Pizza, of which she had been a frequent customer for many years. On 27 February 2024, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

At the age of 110, she was in remarkable health, still being able to walk and still having good eyesight. Her advice was “Be good to people, and they will be good to you. Isn’t that right? And that’s what I try to do. I try to like people and they in return love me."

Genevieve Marszalek died in Bristol, Rhode Island, USA, on 23 March 2025 at the age of 111 years, 24 days.
