Georgi Nencev Stajkov [Bulgarian: Георги Ненчев Стайков] (7 September 1907 – 20 February 2014) was a Bulgarian centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Bulgaria at the time of his death. He was also the oldest World War II veteran in Bulgaria.
Biography[]
Georgi Nencev Stajkov was born in the village of Zaychar in southeastern Bulgaria, Ruen municipality, Burgas district, on 7 September 1907.
With Bulgaria's entry into World War II, many soldiers and volunteers from the Sliven region went to the front as part of the Bulgarian Army. One of them was Georgi Nencev Stajkov. He took part in the first and second phases of the Second World War. He was awarded the Order of Bravery, the Military Order and seven medals.
Veteran Georgi turned 106 on 7 September 2013. Then he received a plaque of honorary citizen of the municipality of Sliven from the mayor Kolja Mileva.
Until the last moment, Stajkov lived in his house in Sliven. Nencev Stajkov died in Sliven, Bulgaria on 20 February 2014, at the age of 106 years, 166 days. Following his death, then 104-year-old Pavel Vasilev Hristov became the oldest known living man in Bulgaria.
