He reported to the village of Kefalovrysos, Aetoloakarnania, and served as a soldier in the 2/39 Evzone Regiment. Gizas was among the first to engage in combat during the conflict, earning a place in history for his heroism.

On 28 October 2019, the Greek Ministry of National Defense honored Gizas with the "1940-41 Campaign Medal" for his wartime contributions. In 2021, during the national "OXI Day" anniversary, he received an honorary plaque from the Municipality of Nafpaktia, further acknowledging his service.
