Gertrude Faillaci (née Morrone; 27 March 1911 – 18 December 2021) was an American supercentenarian whose age was validated by Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2023.
Biography[]
Gertrude Faillaci was born in Westchester County, New York, USA on 27 March 1911. She left high school to work in her brother’s dry-cleaning shop, where she took care of the sewing. After marrying her husband John, the young couple ran a restaurant business. She enjoyed cooking, listening to opera and was a self-taught pianist. She loved to travel and frequently traveled with her sister, Lucy.
She had been a resident of Barclay Friends, a care community, since her 101 years (at her 110th birthday she had already spend more than 8 years there). In November 2017, she survived the fire in Barclay Friends, in which four other residents died.
Faillaci had two children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She credited her longevity to healthy living, a strong work ethic, including "early to bed, early to rise" and an optimistic outlook on life.
Faillaci died at care community Barclay Friends in West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA on 18 December 2021, at the age of 110 years, 266 days. At the time of her death, she was the third-oldest known living person in Pennsylvania, behind Lenara Carey and Naomi Whitehead.
