Giuseppina "Pina" Zecchini (born 10 June 1914) is an Italian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography
Giuseppina Zecchini was born in Verona, Veneto, Italy on 10 June 1914. She is the fourth of five siblings. She remembers that in elementary school she was very good at Italian and mathematics, so much so that even in old age she will remember multiplication tables and poems by heart. At 14, her family found her a job as a babysitter and she then moved to Bolzano, moving away from her family.
In 1939 she married Laerte Neri, a carpenter and warehouseman at the Fleres Military Engineers. From the marriage three children were born: Ettore, Renata and Paolo (respectively aged 79, 72 and 71 in 2019). At 45 she became a widow, and worked hard to support her three children.
Until she was 100 years old, she walked around the city using public transport without any problems. She lived with her family until she was 102 years old, then she moved to a nursing home. At age 105, she could still read without glasses and took only one pill a day for her blood pressure.
In December 2020, Zecchini tested positive for Covid-19, but did not show any serious symptoms. She then recovered after a few weeks.
In June 2024, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian. Zecchini currently lives in Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy, at the age of 111 years, 11 days.
