Gloria Castellanos de Alvarez [Spanish: Álvarez] (16 September 1905 – 21 September 2016) was a Dominican Republic supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2021.
Biography[]
Gloria Castellanos de Alvarez was born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, on 16 September 1905.
She married a poet, Francisco Alvarez Almanzar, with whom he had three children: the journalist Francisco Alvarez Castellanos (born 1932), the lawyer Juan Alvarez Castellanos, and the lawyer Rafael Alvarez Castellanos (now deceased).
She had been a lifelong teacher, teaching in public and private schools in various parts of the country. She was a personal assistant to educator Ercilia Pepin, niece of Father Castellanos and a relative of Gregorio Luperon's paternal side.
Castellanos Alvarez died in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on 21 September 2016, at the age of 111 years, 5 days. At the time of her death, she may have been the third-oldest known living person in Dominican Republic, behind A. R. O. and Efrain Nunez Nunez.
