Grace M. Young (née Yockey; 28 January 1904 – 4 August 2015) was a validated American supercentenarian.
Biography
Grace Young was born as Grace M. Yockey on a farm in Apollo, Pennsylvania, USA, on 28 January 1904. Her parents were Frank & Lily Yockey. She had six siblings in total.
When she was in her 20s, she married her neighbour Paul Young. The couple had three children in total; two daughters and one son. She began raising chickens at home in order to work while still around her kids.
In 1994, Paul passed away in his 90s. At age 106, Grace was still able to do household chores. When she was 109 years old, she moved to a nursing home in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, where she spent the rest of her life.
On the occasion of her 110th birthday, she stated that she never expected to live this long. She further stated that the secret to her longevity was to just ”live regularly”, in addition to abstaining from drinking and smoking.
Grace Young died in Apollo, Pennsylvania, USA, on 4 August 2015 aged 111 years, 188 days.
